SWWRPC provides intergovernmental planning and coordination of community development planning, economic development, and transportation. In response to local and regional goals, the Commission and its Staff work to enhance fiscal and physical resources and to balance local and regional development, preservation, conservation, and social priorities.

SWWRPC's member counties are Grant, Green, Iowa, Lafayette, and Richland.

 

 

Job Opportunity for Assistant/Associate Planner (Platteville, Wisconsin)

Southwestern Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission (SWWRPC) is seeking an Assistant/Associate Planner. The person filling this position will be responsible for supporting a range of planning activities,
working with the community development, transportation, and economic development program managers.

  • Community Development - assist local governments in developing comprehensive plans for cities,villages, towns and counties.
  • Transportation - develop ‘Safe Routes to School (SR2S)’ plans with participating community(ies),pending award of WisDOT grant funds; assist with passenger transit planning; support staffing freight rail transit commissions; and other projects.
  • Economic Development - as appropriate.
  • Other - create or modify development codes and ordinances; participate in a team to create and update region-wide or community-specific development plans and technical studies; and prepare census data, statistics, maps and other implementation tools. Additional duties might include grant writing and publications. Experience in public speaking or running a public meeting AND familiarity with Safe Routes to School (SR2S) planning would be particularly helpful for potential candidates

This position is a limited-time position based on the length of the projects. In this case, the projects are expected take 12-18 months to complete; however; additional contracts are expected.

New Grant Awarded for Regional Planning

The Economic Development Administration (EDA) has approved a grant to study the rural region's changing economy in the Tri-state area, including our SWWRPC region, NW Illinois and NE Iowa. Dr. Samuel Cordes co-director of the Purdue Center for Regional Development (PCRD) and Mr. Mark Drabenstott director of the Rural Policy Research Institute (RUPRI) will lead an investigation of the region's economic potential through cluster analysis. SWWRPC Wins National Award

NADO
Southwestern Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission (SWWRPC) recently received a national award for its community planning program at the annual conference of the National Association of Development Organizations (NADO) in Austin, Texas.

The award recognized SWWRPC's efforts to assist 131 jurisdiction in Grant, Green, Iowa, Lafayette and Richland Counties prepare comprehensive plans to guide their futures.
