The 4 Environments |
|---|
The focus of the plan is to preserve and enhance the quality of life for our communities in a sustainable manner. If we allow ourselves to think of quality of life as the summation of the natural, built, economic, and social environments, we can see how investments of resources in these particular environments may contribute to a better future.

These four environments provide a framework from which the regional plan can be structured. Although topics can be easily shifted from one category to the next, this basic format allows us to divide the planning process into manageable components (see table below). As you can see, Land Use and Sustainability are placed within all categories to be used as lenses from which the 4 environments are to be addressed.
| Natural | Built | Economic | Social |
|---|---|---|---|
| Natural Resources | Utilities & Community Facilities | Economic Development | Intergovernmental Cooperation |
| Agriculture | Transportation | Housing | Cultural Resources |
| Land Use | Land Use | Land Use | Land Use |
| Sustainability | Sustainability | Sustainability | Sustainability |
SWWRPC will develop a working group to address each of the planning elements within the table above. Results from those groups will be assembled into 4 environmental planning teams. Each of those teams will examine the outcomes and proposed strategies outlined by the working groups. A final workship will integrate the findings from each of the environments into a regional comprehensive strategey for investments.
