Planning Schedule

Overview: The planning process takes place over a period of 24 months.  During which, 10 status reports (1/2 – 1 hour briefings)  will occur during regularly scheduled Commission meetings.  Each Commissioner is expected to attend (2) half-day workshops-1 environmental workshop and the final implementation workshop.  The total time commitment per Commissioner of a 2-year period is 40 hours-19 in meetings, and 21 for preparation.

Working Groups (Phase I): Each environment is broken into its chapter elements.  Staff will identify key stakeholders and assemble working groups to ground truth background information, identify issues and opportunities, and develop alternatives for each chapter element. The Commission will be briefed throughout this stage of the planning process during regularly scheduled Commission meetings.

Regional Surveys (Phase II): Staff will engage the general public at the BEST conference and at County Fairs using an interactive booth featuring a survey.  Results from the survey will be displayed online and will inform the planning process.

Alternatives (Phase III): Staff compiles the results from the various public engagement activities and from working groups to provide strategic alternatives for each element.

Synthesis (Phase IV): Near the end of the process, Commissioners will participate in a planning workshop to make final recommendations and policy selections for their respected environment. Once all 4 environmental workshops have been held, a final implementation workshop will integrate the findings from each of the environments into a comprehensive regional strategy for investments.
