SWWRPC’s Transportation Program
Wisconsin's transportation infrastructure has developed from a system of trails, waterways, crude roads, and a network of bicycle trails. Today an interconnected transportation system that includes roads, recreation trails, freight rail, ports, and airports, provides local communities – and the regional economy – with access to national and international resources and markets.
Responding to needs in our corner of the world, SWWRPC’s Transportation Program strives to be broad-based and responsive. Ongoing initiatives include:
- Safety – working with each County’s Traffic Safety Commission and on special projects
- Freight Rail Preservation – staffing three Rail Transit Commissions
- Transit Planning – creating a regional passenger transportation services plan with the Southwest Wisconsin Transit Team
- Mapping – developing web-based tools for local ROADWORK and CRASH data
- Comprehensive Planning – working with participating jurisdictions to develop the transportation element of their comprehensive plans.
