2008 Coordinated Planning Efforts
The SWTT continues efforts to improve transportation coordination within the region. In 2008, the group applied for two grants administered by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT).
- Under the Supplemental Transportation Rural Assistance Program (STRAP), federal funds are provided for new start, expansion and planning of non-urbanized transit service projects. The SWTT received funding to expand the Grant County Taxi into Dodgeville, Mineral Point, and Darlington (Iowa and Lafayette Counties).
- New Freedom Program funds are available for capital and operating expenses that support new public transportation services and alternatives beyond those required by the Americans With Disabilities Act of 1990. The program is designed to provide tools to help disabled individuals overcome the barriers to mobility. In 2008, the SWTT received New Freedoms funding to develop a coordinated system of transportation service delivery including public and private transportation providers covering the five-county region. The Team has hired a Mobility Manager and is in the process of developing a multi-county transit database along with forming a multi-county transit advisory council.
