Transportation Program - Passenger Rail

Passenger rail offers countless benefits, including convenience, cost, and environmental savings. In Southwestern Wisconsin, we currently do not sustain the population density needed to make passenger rail practical in our region, but recently a number of events have led to a rise in discussion of passenger rail in near proximity to Southwestern Wisconsin. As events unfold, more information will be added to this page regarding passenger rail affecting Southwestern Wisconsin.

The following rail passenger rail routes are currently being discussed and awaiting news of federal and state funding:

  • Dubuque to Chicago
  • Madison to Milwaukee (and onto Chicago and possibly Minneapolis).

SWWRPC will remain informed on these events and work with communities to address the potential impacts of these changes coming to our region.
