Rail
SWWRPC has a particularly strong relationship with the rail lines of Southwestern Wisconsin. Because there currently is no passenger rail in the 5-County Area, our efforts have largely focused on freight rail (or rail for shipping commodities). Today, however, discussions of passenger rail are on the rise, and SWWRPC is planning for these services that will come near our region and likely affect our quality of life. Air
While often overlooked, air travel is a vital part of our local transportation network. Southwestern Wisconsin is home to 10 airports. These airports offer a number of benefits to our region, including increasing accessibility to business travel and tourism. SWWRPC has worked with airports overtime to help meet their needs, and bringing them to the region and helping to retain them.
Water
Three of our five Counties border along a major river, one of which is the Mississippi. Water transportation, similar to air transportation, benefits our local economy in a number of ways, including tourism and freight shipping. SWWRPC has helped this form of transportation thrive by conducting use analysis and applying for funding through programs such as WisDOT's Harbor Assistance Program (HAP).
