Transportation Program - Walking & Biking

Walking and biking is a vital form of transportation for a large portion of our population, including the youth, elderly, disabled, and those otherwise without the means or ability to drive their own vehicle. Because, as a rural region, we generally do not have the population density required for public transportation such as buses, providing safe walking and biking in some ways becomes even more important to our residents (see "Flexible Transportation" for other alternatives).

In addition to being a means of getting from point A to point B, walking and biking is healthy and fun- and helps attract tourists to our region through the number of our trails in close proximity to larger urban areas.

SWWRPC is involved in walking and biking transportation in a number of ways. We have helped bring trails to Southwestern Wisconsin, provided grant writing and funding assistance for walking and biking infrastructure, and do planning for pedestrian and bicyclist facilities. Please contact us if you have any questions relating to walking or biking in your community.
