As an economic development specialist, Kate is the lead economic development planner creating comprehensive economic development strategy plans and working closely with county and municipal officials to attract, develop and retain area businesses. She writes and administers bi-annual Economic Development Administration grants and works closely with other regional agencies such as Prosperity Southwest and the Southwest Workforce Development Board on shared projects and objectives. Kate is also the administrator and underwriter for the Southwest Business Development Fund and the Revolving Loan Funds for Iowa and Richland Counties.
Kate serves as the executive director of the Platteville Business Incubator, Inc. (PBII) where she assists, coaches and mentors new and growing businesses. Working in conjunction with the Platteville Economic Development Team, Kate helps PBII graduates get established as long-standing and vital members of the Platteville business community. Kate is in charge of bringing in new incubator participants and she welcomes questions on and applications for the program on an ongoing basis.
Working for large organizations such as United Airlines and MeadWestvaco, as well as founding, scaling and selling a marketing communications company, has helped Kate develop strong management and business assessment skills. She has worked in the United States, Kenya and Belize assessing, coaching and growing entrepreneurial businesses. She has written several business ebooks on entrepreneurship and marketing. Kate is a summa cum laude graduate of the City Universities of New York Baccalaureate Program with a B.S. in Acting and Directing. Kate is married, has two above-average children and in her free time loves to sew, play board games and participate in community service projects.
