Regional Hazard Mitigation Plan
The Southwestern Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission is undergoing a regional planning process to update Hazard Mitigation Plans for the Southwestern Wisconsin Region (Richland, Grant, Iowa, Green, and Lafayette Counties). Hazard Mitigation Plans are intended to help communities reduce loss of life and property by minimizing the impact of disasters. The plans will identify natural disaster risks and vulnerabilities that are common in the area (flooding, severe storms, winter weather, etc.) and develop long-term strategies for protecting people and property from similar events. Mitigation plans are key to breaking the cycle of disaster damage and reconstruction. Keeping these plans current also keeps each county eligible for FEMA mitigation funding.
